Rolling Stone Stamped Signature Quilt
Unknown Quilt Maker
Circa 1850
70 x 82 inches
Pennsylvania
There are a remarkable number of quilts in this Rolling Stone pattern, created in Pennsylvania in the middle of the 19th century. (See last photo for a few now in the collections of the International Quilt Museum). These quilts have blocks that are frequently filled with names that have been added in ink by a scribe.
This example is unusual in that the names were applied in ink, but with stamped letters, and inside decorated frames.
With some damage to the green, this one remains a great example of a particular time and place. Hand quilted.
