"Dogwood" Quilt

Origin Unknown; Found in New Mexico
Marie Webster, an early 20th century quilt designer and businesswoman, first offered this Dogwood design in her January 1931 catalog. I've learned that it could be ordered as a stamped kit ($10), basted top ($45), or finished quilt ($90). The Dogwood design was popular, and so we still see examples of them, in a surprisingly wide variety of color schemes.
This handsome example is green, brown, and with a couple of shades of rose. (My camera doesn't want to capture the green in any kind of consistent way... apologies.)
Superb handwork on this quilt – the applique stitches are near-invisible. Check out the skill it took to applique those stems and basket handles. The hand quilting is also extraordinary. The quilter was not a novice – s/he executed consistently fine and even stitching in quite dense and elaborate designs.
Graceful scalloped edges are finished with a separately applied binding, and it's pink! All cottons, and in Excellent Condition. Appears unused.
